Sikkim Janata Party was a political party in Sikkim. The party was founded in Gangtok in 1969 founded by Lal Bahadur Basnet.[1] Basnet, a well-known journalist and political commentator, served as the president of the party.[2] Ideologically the party adhered to socialism.[1][3] The party was active in the struggle for democratic reforms.[4] The party suffered from weak organization and lack of financial backing.[3]
On August 15, 1972 SJP merged with Sikkim State Congress to form the Sikkim Janata Congress.[5]
