Silencer Central is an American company that develops, manufactures and distributes silencers (firearm suppressors) and accessories for pistols, shotguns, rifles and personal defense weapons.[2][3][4] Silencer Central was founded by Brandon Maddox in 2005 and is headquartered in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.[5][6][7]
In 2022, the company was listed on the Inc. 5000 Annual List.[8]
History[edit]
Brandon Maddox founded Silencer Central (formerly known as South Dakota Silencer )[5][2] in 2005 to manufacture sound suppressors, having previously practiced pharmacy.[3][9] He started the company with an FFL and Class 3 SOT license and soon expanded the business to South and North Dakota.[2]The company began selling silencers at events and fulfilling via mail-order, also opening stores in many states.[2][3][10]
By August 2019, the company changed its name to Silencer Central and operated in 21 US states.[2][5]
Since 2015, Silencer Central has been a member of the American Silencer Association (ASA) and took part in legalizing suppressors in Iowa and Minnesota.[11] The manufacturer is also a Class 3 silencer dealer with the license to operate in 42 U.S. states.[3][11][12] Silencer Central has been a part of legislative efforts in promoting suppressor-friendly legislation in several states, including changes in hunting laws and regulations.[11] The company's owner Brandon Maddox has been among promoters of 2 legislation bills in South Dakota that would regulate banking practice for not underwriting or lending to firearms-related companies.[4] In February 2021, Maddox testified before the South Dakota Senate Commerce and Energy Committee and reported discrimination by banks with regards to his type of business.[4][13]
In August 2022, Silencer Central was listed # 1309 on the annual “Inc. 5000” list.[8][14]
Products[edit]
Silencer Central manufactures its own line of suppressors Banish for rimfires up to .30 magnum caliber.[15][16] It also distributes other silencers brands produced by the US manufacturers including Gemtech, SilencerCo, Dead Air Silencers and Advanced Armament Corporation, among others.[3] As of 2022, the company sold 100,000 silencers annually.[17][18]
Facility[edit]
Silencer Central operates out of a 41,200 square feet facility in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, which was purchased from the former Cigna building's owner and renovated in 2021.[19] The entire manufacturing process for Banish brand is completed in-house, from raw materials to finished product. The facility is also a distribution center for 42 states. Silencer Central has over 170 employees throughout the United States.[17][20]
