SiliconExpert Technologies, or Silicon Expert, is an American company headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts. The company is a subsidiary of Arrow Electronics and provides various types of specification data on electronic components and parts, as well as a parts management system software for those electronic parts.
History[edit]
SiliconExpert Technologies was founded in 2000, in Santa Clara, California. [3]
In 2007, SiliconExpert announced a partnership with global electronics corporation, Arrow Electronics. This partnership aimed to combine Arrow Electronics’ global components and parts database with SiliconExpert’s software as a service product, their electronics parts management service. [4]
On March 22, 2012, SiliconExpert was acquired by Arrow Electronics. Their business model was shaped around two core SAAS offerings, an electronic parts search and a bill of materials (BOM) manager.[5]
Parts Database[edit]
The Parts Database is a registered trademark of SiliconExpert and currently contains over a billion parts in its index. This number has grown from their database of 300 million electronic components in 2014. [6] [7]
This database has been touted as one of the largest and up-to-date electronic parts indexes in the electronic component industry. [8]
Bill of Materials Manager[edit]
The other major part of SiliconExpert’s business is their bill of materials management software, or "BOM" manager. [9] This management system contains the bill of materials required to gather materials, build, and assemble a specific electronics component. Their system includes the country of origin for where a component is manufactured. [10] [11]
