Early life[edit | edit source]

Born in Pitiduwa, Galle (Southern Province of Sri Lanka) on Tuesday 24th February 1975 to Mr.& Mrs. Henry was the first born of two boys. The younger child passed away due to a heart failure. The initial name given to the eldest child was Sanath Deepa Kumara. He is from a middle class family, His father worked for Co-op Development Department Of Sri Lanka while mother had been employed in Government textile production house. Because most of his childhood spent with grand mothers, he had lot of freedom to spent tremendous time with jungles, mountains, animals and forests where he became so closed to the nature. Since a child he had photographic memory and sensible talent for agriculture, sculpting and painting as well as education.[1]

Initially he went to Pitiduwa Pimary Junior school in 1981. After that he moved to Heenatigala Saariputra school in 1986 at this time he self researched and mastered knowledge in Thripitaka, many other Buddhist scriptures, Mantras, Tantras , Yantras, Jyotirvedas, Vedas and many other Occult Sciences in addition to his general education from school. Then he entered to the very famous and reputed school in Galle, Sri Lanka Richmond College for his G.C.E. Advanced Levels in 1992. After completing Advanced Levels in bio science, initially he had the chance to enter University of Ruhuna but then he transferred to the Universitiy Of Kelaniya. He graduated from the University of Kalaniya with a Bachelor's degree in Microbiology (special). During his university time, he gained more experience in life and realize the death will conquer him one day no matter whatever he achieved. So he had the idea to seek the ultimate truth, with this intention he became a monk against the will of his family and friends on a full moon (poya) day 12th October 2000 at Wijayananda Pirivena under a gentle spring rain which last for few minutes. Due to his beautiful scientific and logical explanations and lectures in Buddhism he quickly became a very popular monk in the Sri Lankan Media.[2][1]

Spiritual experience[edit | edit source]

In the book Triality 3 Samanthabhadra explains that how he felt when he experiencing his life in another level. He says that he has been observing his mind for so long and then he suddenly realize that every aspect of life including mind runs on duality. Either there is 1 or either there is 0. With this experiential realization his mind became to a center. So with a certain time he realized that this center also contain a duality. So he called that centered state of mind "relative center" Then he started to experience an "absolute center". This is beyond everything logical, its also like a dimension beyond space. He felt Supreme levels of ecstatic experiences like never before. He realized everything in this existence is a dream like state and its a complete illusion. His skin color shape of the eyes, facial features, muscle and bone structure started to change as well. He says he didn't felt the time he was absolutely out from the space time continuum. Everything in physical and spiritual existence was experienced as a one energy beam which connected everything. He says he couldn't differentiate between him and everything else. He experienced past present and future altogether in the same moment. The more he tried to reject this ecstatic feeling it arises more and more. His personality he used to carry dissolved every time he was experiencing such states. He was full of energy all the time. And then he started to realize the ways of nature, life ,how it works and the pathways that every human can experience this. He says that every human is capable to experience this if they are fully willing.[3][4]

Teaching[edit | edit source]

Siri Samanthabhadra Thero is explaining that the whole physical human experience is a dream like state. All these experiences happens because of the duality. If a one can understand this duality and stay with out entangling to this duality that person will experience the life in a different manner. "Let it go from mind" If you can absolutely involve in what ever you do with out entanglement that is the best way to live because there will be no suffering with out entanglement. Once a human being is able to realize this and break the limitation in human consciousness it will be in full union with the whole cosmos. He describes the feeling is more like in union with everything in the whole cosmos and the same time its absolute emptiness, This is what is called as Nirvana. Once a someone realize and dissolve into this dimenstion that person would be physically highly ecstatic all the time but the person will be highly aware about everything as well. The core basic practice he teaches is "Chiththanu-passanā". The technique is about having an effortless awareness always and continuously. Siri Samanthabhadra Thero elaborate that enlightenment is a natural phenomena and a possibility for every human being which will transcend them to experience the life at its best.[12]

Legacy[edit | edit source]

The sanskrit meaning of Samanthabhadra is "The all pervading one" or "Universally worthy". Siri Samanthabhadra Thero is a self realized being without a teacher fulfilling the enlightenment of Bodhisattva Samantabhadra as mention in Lotus sutra. Samantabhadra is a key figure in the Flower Garland Sutra, particularly the last chapter, the Gandhavyuha Sutra. In the climax of the Gandhavyuha Sutra. Together with Shakyamuni Buddha and fellow bodhisattva Manjusri he forms the Shakyamuni trinity in Buddhism. He is the patron of the Lotus Sutra and, according to the Avatamsaka Sutra, made the ten great vows which are the basis of a bodhisattva. Samantabhadra.[13]

Samantabhadra is not subject to limits of time, place, or physical conditions. Samantabhadra is not a colored being with two eyes, etc. Samantabhadra is the unity of awareness and emptiness, the unity of appearances and emptiness, the nature of mind, natural clarity with unceasing compassion - that is Samantabhadra from the very beginning[14]
