Sivanandi Rajadurai (born September 1, 1951), also known as Mylaudy Dr. S. Rajadurai,[1] is an Indian chemist whose work has focused on catalysis, physical chemistry, and emission control.[2] He is the chairman and the founder of the Rajadurai Foundation.

Education

Rajadurai was born in Myladi, Kanyakumari district, Tamil Nadu, India, to Sivanandi Nadar and Thayammal Nadachi. He completed his secondary education at Ringletaube High School in Mylaudy and undergraduate studies at Vivekananda College, Kanyakumari.

Rajadurai earned a postgraduate degree in chemistry from Mar Ivanios College, University of Kerala, and a PhD in physical chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology, where he worked under J. C. Kuriacose. His doctoral research focused on catalytic converter development.[3][4] His subsequent research has involved solid oxide solutions for pollution abatement.[3][4][5]

Career

1979–1985: India

Rajadurai held academic positions from 1979 to 1980 at American College, Madurai, and Loyola College, Chennai, from 1980 to 1985, and served as a PhD supervisor for the University of Madras at the same time. He received the Loyola College faculty awards in 1983.[6] During this time, Rajadurai served as a UNESCO representative for India.

1985–2009: United States

Rajadurai worked at the University of Notre Dame[7] and collaborated with researchers,[8] including J.J. Carberry and C.B. Alcock, on catalyst development.[9] His research addressed non-noble metal catalysts, organic free radical and photochemical processes using laser techniques.[10][11][12]

In 2009, Rajadurai established a Research & Development centre in South India for Sharda Motor Industries Ltd.[13][14] The centre's capabilities include design, development and validation of exhaust systems for emission control and Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) control.[15][16] He established relationships with research institutions and provided education to young engineers on industry challenges and opportunities, including those related to globalization, over capacity, economic uncertainties, and changing consumer demands.[17][citation needed]

He initiated a green technology centre to encourage research and education on environmental protection, addressing challenges such as acid rain, global warming, ozone depletion, rainforest deterioration, river contamination, sea level rise, accumulation of hazardous wastes, air pollution and overpopulation.[18] He was involved with the SRM Institute of Science and Technology formula racing team,[19][20][21] developing exhaust systems for engine performance while maintaining sound levels below 110 dB.[22]

Rajadurai is Chairman of the Rajadurai Foundation, an organisation that contends to advance academic scholarship, professional development, societal welfare, and environmental protection. He holds seminars and corporate partnerships as a visiting professor with SRM Institute of Science and Technology,[23] Adhiparasakthi college of engineering, Karpagam University, SKR Engineering College, James Engineering College, Annai Vailankanni College of Engineering,[24] Academy of Maritime Education and Training (AMET) University[25] and Hindustan University.[26]

Rajadurai has facilitated corporate partnerships with various universities and colleges. He served as a Chairman of Industry Institute Interaction Cell (IIIC) in 2011[27] and as a Member of Governing Council in 2012[28] at Annai Vailankanni College of Engineering. In 2018, he became a Member of the Research Advisory Board (National)[29] and Board of Research at Hindustan Institute of Technology & Science. He was also a Board of Studies Member in 2018[30] and a Member of the Advisory Committee in 2019[31] at Bannari Amman Institute of Technology. Additionally, he is a Member of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC)[32] and Institution Innovation Council (IIC)[33] as of 2019 at the Academy of Maritime Education and Training (AMET) University.
