Slack City is a community radio station owned and operated by Platform B Limited in the United Kingdom. It broadcasts to Brighton, Portsmouth, Norwich and Manchester from studios[clarification needed].
History
Slack City was conceived in 2019 as a free-form community radio project with studios based in public spaces in Brighton. Prior to that, the station was branded as totallyradio and is the UK's longest-running internet radio station, launched in July 2000. It offered a global platform for non-mainstream and predominantly independent music. This was a sister station to the former Independent Local Radio broadcaster, Juice 107.2 which was based in Brighton and run by local talent headed by Daniel Nathan. On Friday 01 January 2021, totallyradio was rebranded as Slack City Radio and began broadcasting online and on DAB on the trial multiplex in Brighton. It began broadcasting from its studios at 12am in a local coffee shop. Slack City's format is free-form radio and does not have strict programming for genres.
Studios
Slack City has been based in many locations, mainly in Brighton. Its first studios were based in Presuming Ed's Coffeehouse on London Road. It has since then been based at other locations, its main studios are based at Family Store Records & Gallery, and The Actors (formerly The Marlborough Pub and Theatre) as its daytime and night-time studios respectively. Audiences are encouraged to take part in live broadcasts and many live acts are aired and recorded from these locations.
