SmartStop Self Storage, also known as SmartStop or SmartStop Self Storage REIT, Inc.[1], is an American self-storage company. It is currently based in Ladera Ranch, California. As of 2021, it is currently the 7th largest self-storage company in the United States. SmartStop Self Storage develops, owns, and operates self-storage facilities across the United States.[2] It also has operations in Canada, where it focuses on the Greater Toronto Area in Ontario.[3][4][5]
History
SmartStop Self Storage was founded in 1979.[6] In 2007, the company was officially incorporated.[7]
As of 2021, SmartStop Self Storage manages $1.7 billion of real estate assets. The company manages 153 properties across 19 states in the U.S., and also in Ontario, Canada. Together, their rentable properties make up about 104,000 units and 11.7 million square feet.
The company continually acquires properties across the United States to ensure wide geographic coverage and service.[8]
Its CEO and President is H Michael Schwartz as of 2021.[9]
