SMILE Fish is a Russian network of home kindergartens.[1][2]

Location[edit]

Smile Fish is located at Kutuzovsky prospekt in Moscow, Russia [2]

History[edit]

The first home kindergarten “Rybka-smile”,(Rybka mean fish and Ylybka mean smile) which 30 years later became the basis of the Smile Fish network, was opened in Khabarovsk in 1985 by a family of teachers in the fourth generation. The business turned out to be profitable, but the founders did not consider it as a business, and until the early 2000s they held only 3 sets, in which their own children were involved. Since 1999, Smile Fish has been expanding, opening new branches in rented apartments on the first floors of residential buildings nearby. Not only friends and relatives appeared in the state, but also professional teachers.[2] The eldest child in the family of the founders of Smile Fish, Ivan Sorokin attended a home kindergarten when he was a child as part of the very first group recruited in 1986. After graduating from the school, he moved to Kiev , where he made a career as a business coach. After 2014, Sorokin and his family moved to Moscow , joined the family business and began to develop home kindergartens under the Smile Fish franchise. The first franchisees were Sorokin's Kiev acquaintances, and in 2015 the first kindergarten opened in the capital of Russia.[2]

Format[edit]

The company operates in the format of home kindergartens, the requirements for which are much softer than for traditional private kindergartens. Smile Fish kindergartens operate in converted apartments on the ground floors of residential buildings, each group has no more than 16 children of the same age.[2] Each kindergarten operates as a separate individual entrepreneur with OKVED 88.91 "Provision of day care services for children." Like other private preschool institutions, home kindergartens receive state support under the "Employment Promotion" in the structure of the national project "Demography".[1] Smile Fish develops on a franchise basis, potential partners undergo a rigorous selection process. For 2019, the network included 50 gardens, including 17 in Moscow, and Smile Fish's revenue amounted to 134 million rubles. This made the company the largest in the segment of home (family) kindergartens and according to its own assessment, brought it closer to the top of five network private kindergarten in Russia.[3]
