Smith & 9th is an independent hip hop record label that was founded in 2017 by American rapper Royce Caldwell. The label is based in Brooklyn, New York, and is named after the subway station where Caldwell grew up.
History[edit]
Before founding Smith & 9th, Royce Caldwell had been involved in the hip hop industry for several years. He had released multiple mixtapes and albums under his own name and collaborated with other artists. However, Caldwell felt that there were limited opportunities for independent artists to showcase their talents and reach a wider audience.
With the aim of creating a platform for independent artists to be heard and nurtured, Caldwell founded Smith & 9th in 2017. The label's focus is on underground hip hop and experimental music, with an emphasis on authenticity and originality.
