History
So FN Dope Magazine is an American music and entertainment magazine publication founded in 2017 by W. Michael Welch Jr. and Corey Norwood Sr. The magazine aims to spotlight exceptional talent often overlooked by mainstream media, including independent music artists, aspiring actors, athletes, and entrepreneurs throughout the United States. With a mission to amplify underrepresented voices, So FN Dope Magazine serves as a platform that emphasizes hard work, determination, and professionalism in the entertainment industry.[1]
Founders and Vision
W. Michael Welch Jr. and Corey Norwood Sr., both experienced in the entertainment industry, initially established So FN Dope Magazine as a passion project to celebrate diverse talents. Their experiences shaped a vision to provide exposure and recognition to artists and entrepreneurs who might not receive attention from traditional media outlets. As a result, they developed a magazine inspired by the style and influence of late 1990s and early 2000s publications, such as The Source, Ozone, and VIBE magazine. The magazine reflects not only their respect for the culture but also their commitment to authenticity and support for aspiring creatives.

The magazine's diverse content aims to captivate readers and provide a comprehensive look into the creative world.

The sixth issue featured Grammy Award-winning R&B singer and Maroon 5 keyboardist PJ Morton[2], followed by actor Omar J. Dorsey, known for his roles in Queen Sugar and Bookie[3], in the seventh issue. Special Issues
Since starting the company in 2017, So FN Dope Magazine has released a few special edition issues, with one of its most recent and most memorable being the "50 Years of Hip Hop" edition. This commemorative issue paid tribute to the pioneers of hip-hop, including DJ Kool Herc, who is often considered to be the father of Hip-Hop and Grandmaster Flash who perfected the art of scratching and mixing records.[4][5] The magazine also highlighted Public Enemy, who was known for their outspoken and political movements in hip-hop, and KRS-one who is one of the most prolific conscious rappers to date.[6][7] The edition aimed to focus the contributions of early hip-hop artists and their influence on the development of the genre. It served as a retrospective on the origins and cultural impact of hip-hop over the past five decades.
Mobile App Launch
In April 2023, So FN Dope Magazine expanded its reach by launching a mobile application, SFND+, available on both iOS and Android platforms. The app allows users to access digital editions of the magazine, with options for single-issue purchases or annual subscriptions. This development reflects the magazine's commitment to adapting to digital trends and making its content more accessible to a broader audience.
