Society of Fantasy and Science Fiction Wargamers

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The Society of Fantasy and Science Fiction Wargamers (SFSFW) is an international body established in the early 1990s to promote the fantasy and science fiction genre within the table top wargaming hobby and also to promote the hobby in general. The society distributes the Ragnarok magazine and formerly the Nastrond newsletter; and it hosted the Bifrost convention until 2006.

History[edit]

The society was founded by Steve and Karen Blease in Bristol, United Kingdom in the early 1990s, along with help from James Clay and Simon Evans.

Activities[edit]

The society produces a journal, Ragnarok, featuring industry news, articles, and game and miniature reviews. A newsletter, Nastrond, was also circulated to members, and a number of specialist groups within the society have produced their own newsletters. The SFSFW's convention is called Bifrost, which has not been held since 2006.

The society operates an electronic mailing list and has a web site where more information and articles from past issues of Ragnarok can be found. In 2009, the society started to make issues of Ragnarok available to non-members as purchasable PDFs via Wargame Vault and to expand their online activities via a blog, Facebook, and Twitter.
