SolitAir (legally SolitAir Aviation Services) is an Emirati cargo airline based at Al Maktoum International Airport (Dubai World Central) in Dubai. Founded in 2024 by former FedEx executive Hamdi Osman, the airline operates scheduled, charter, and middle-mile freighter services connecting Dubai with secondary markets across the Middle East, Africa, Central Asia, South Asia, and Europe.[1][2]
History
SolitAir was established in 2024 by Hamdi Osman, who previously served for over three decades at FedEx Express, including as Senior Vice President for the Europe, Middle East, Indian Subcontinent, and Africa (EMEISA) region.[3][4] The company initially secured $35.5 million in private financing from Gulf, American, European, and Australian investors.[3][5]
The carrier commenced flight operations in December 2024 with a freighter service between Dubai and Riyadh, utilizing Boeing 737-800BCF aircraft chartered from ASL Airlines Ireland.[3][6] On 26 March 2025, the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) granted SolitAir its air operator's certificate (AOC #UAE-AOC-AT-0065), enabling the airline to transition its chartered fleet into in-house dry leases under Emirati registration.[6][4]
In 2026, SolitAir expanded its regulatory footprint into the European and British markets. In March 2026, the carrier received an ACC3 cargo security designation from the Belgian Civil Aviation Authority, alongside EASA Third Country Operator (TCO) status.[1][2] This was followed in July 2026 by a TCO certification from the UK Civil Aviation Authority, clearing the airline for UK airspace operations.[1][5]
Business model and operations
SolitAir operates as a business-to-business (B2B) express cargo and middle-mile carrier from a 20,440-square-metre (220,000 sq ft) facility at Dubai World Central.[6][5] Rather than competing directly with widebody hub operators such as Emirates SkyCargo or Qatar Airways Cargo, the airline focuses on narrowbody capacity serving secondary city pairs within a six-hour flight radius of Dubai.[3][2]
The airline provides scheduled and ad-hoc capacity for freight forwarders and major integrators including FedEx, DHL, UPS, and Amazon Air.[3][6] In April 2026, industry reporting noted that regional supply chain disruptions and airspace restrictions surrounding the Iran conflict increased demand for SolitAir's freight capacity by 50 percent as commercial shippers sought alternative air corridors for time-sensitive cargo.[2]
