History
Something Something Explosion (S.S.E) were formed in Toowoomba in 2015 by lead singer-songwriter and guitarist, Grace Drummond, bass guitarist, Daimon Coveney-Motbey and drummer, Jazz Wright. Drummond is the only remaining founding member as of 2022 and has been featured in Australian Band articles such as "#AUSMUSICTSHIRTDAY Feature Series – Grace Drummond of Something Something Explosion"[1], "DEAD OF WINTER // Girls To The Front – The Women Of Dead Of Winter 2019" [2] and "LIVE REVIEW: Halloween Hysteria" [3]
Their debut EP, Creature from the Black Lagoon (2016), was produced by Jeff Lester at Shift Studios, Toowoomba. This EP showcased the band's grunge roots with heavier and deeper instrumentation and vocals in comparison to their more recent work. The single "Dominique" was released on 24 September 2016, before the full release of the EP on 9 December 2016.
Something Something Explosion's second EP, Propaganda Machine (2018), was produced by Jason Whalley of Frenzal Rhomb at The Pet Food Factory in Sydney, Australia. This EP established the band's signature Punk Rock and Skate Punk sound. The EP includes two singles, "Motor Mouth" and "Burn it Down". "Motor Mouth" was released on 2 July 2018 and features Jason Whalley of Frenzal Rhomb. Tommy Faith from Triple J stated "Yep. This is fun as hell." when reviewing the fast-paced and high energy track.[4] The second single from "Propaganda Machine", "Burn it Down" was released on 5 September 2018 and became one of their most recognisable tracks, with fans comparing it to the PS2 Tony Hawk Soundtrack. [5]
Something Something Explosion went on their first Australian tour, "Mid-Youth Crisis Tour", in Jul-Sep 2017. The tour began in Queensland with shows in Maroochydore, Ipswich, Toowoomba and Brisbane. The band then played interstate shows in Newcastle, NSW, Melbourne and Sydney. This was the beginning of many Australian tours to come. By the band's next tour, Jazz Wright and Tim Hacquoil had left the band and Nayth Marshall joined on drums, permanently establishing the band as a trio. The "Motor Mouth Tour" (Jul-Aug 2018) took S.S.E interstate once again with notable Aussie bands, Waax, Bakers Eddy, Pandemic and The Dead Love.[6] In January 2019, Hysteria Magazine listed Something Something Explosion as one of the "Bands to watch" for the year. [7]
In May 2019, frontwoman, Grace Drummond moved to Ocean Grove, Victoria. S.S.E embarked on their biggest Aussie tour to date in May 2019, supporting Ocean Grove (band) on their "Ask for the Anthem" tour. The tour began on 17 May at "Marrickville Bowling Club", Sydney and continued onto "Woolly Mammoth", Brisbane, "Howler", Melbourne and concluded on 24 May at "Enigma" Adelaide. S.S.E continued to tour in 2019, playing at various festivals such as Dead of Winter (Brisbane), Halloween Hysteria (Brisbane) and Heck fest in Rockhampton. As well as, supporting the likes of Cancer Bats, Bodyjar and 28 Days (band).
Something Something Explosion kicked off 2020 with Unify Gathering in Gippsland, Victoria. [8]. Then, the band became a Victorian based band in 2020 when Brendon 'Shorty' Lee replaced Daimon Coveney-Motbey as bassist and Chad Blaster replaced Nayth Marshall on Drums. This change was paired with a setlist of refreshed material, which was debuted at shows supporting The Smith Street Band and Lagwagon.
In 2021, S.S.E played shows with The Go Set, Frenzal Rhomb, Bakers Eddy and joined the likes of Parkway Drive, Trophy Eyes, The Chats and Hellions at Knight and Day Festival in Ballarat (December 2021).[9]
Something Something Explosion are currently writing and producing a new record, with intentions to release in 2023.

She's still got the biggest lungs in the business. She's still got the most powerful stance with a guitar. And she still fills up the stage and blasts the crowd with everything she's got.

If you told me that this was part of the soundtrack to an unreleased Tony Hawk game for the PS2, I'd believe you. This is a great track!

frontwomen Grace Drummond shed some light and one of the widespread issues at live shows—sexual harassment. Ending the conversation with an emphatic “Just don’t fucking objectify women!” the entire room felt just a little more comfortable.
