Sondra Dimond
Soni Dimond (c. 1957 - January 9, 2025) was an American TV personality,[1] and host for the Harrisburg, PA affiliate WHTM ABC27.[2]
Early life and education
In 1978, while attending Gettysburg College, she started at ABC27 as an intern and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Communication in 1979.[3]
Career
By then, she was the station's weekend anchor and reporter a year later, after getting promoted to full-time and worked with Chief Meteorologist Chuck Rhodes and Sports Director Gregg Mace after graduating from Gettysburg College that same year.[4]
After being out of the Susquehanna Valley for years, she returned home to form her own media company, "Soni Dimond Media". In 2003, she and her firm were chosen as one of Pennsylvania's Best 50 Women in Business. In 2005, Dimond released a book called "Life's A Pitch" in two editions, explaining how everyone can excel at their own pace when building their career.[5]
Dimond returned to Harrisburg at WHTM ABC27 (where she began her career) in 2018 on a part-time basis, working on Good Day PA and she created and headlined a segment called Vibrant Living.[6][7][8]
Personal life and death
Dimond was married to her husband, Kevin Martorana (whom she met when they worked at WGAL and later married in 1995).[9][10] Dimond died on January 9, 2025 after a cardiac arrest. ABC27 paid tribute to her as other tributes poured in.[1][11] Later that year, the Central PA Conference for Women renamed the lifetime achievement award after Dimond in her honor.[12]
