Songwriter is a compilation album by Paul Simon released in 2011. It includes both live and studio recordings. Distinctive among other compilation albums that primarily feature Simon's most well known songs, such as Greatest Hits, Etc. (1977), Negotiations and Love Songs (1988) and The Essential Paul Simon (2007), Songwriter includes lesser known songs that were selected by Simon as favorite examples of his songwriting. The second album in the two-disc set exclusively includes songs published after 1990. The compilation is also distinctive in that it includes Aretha Franklin's studio recording of Bridge Over Troubled Water which was written by Simon.

Stephen Thomas Erlewine from Allmusic indicates that while the exclusion of many hits may "disgruntle listeners who only want the songs they know by heart" that "for listeners who want to get a strong overview of Simon the writer, containing many but not all of his best songs, Songwriter is a solid choice."
