Early life

Sonia was born into an Indian Hindu family in Alappuzha, Kerala. She began her education at Cotton hill higher secondary school Alappuzha. Growing up in a family of musicians and vocalists, Sonia started studying music by the age of 4. Since her childhood, she sang at various events. Her early singing career raised a little amount of Rs 250 for each event. Apparently, that little amount was highly rewarding for her financially troubled family. Sonia, aiming for higher, kept singing at festivals at night and attended her school in the morning. Her night work hours made her sleep during school hours. It was when Sonia made it to her 10th grade that her teacher, out of sheer concern summoned her mother and raised the question around the probability of Sonia passing her Secondary School Leaving Certificate(SSLC). It came as a shock to Sonia's mother as she sobbed that day trying to reassure the teacher. She made sure that the school administration did not hinder her daughter's opportunity for education. Later, the 10th-grade result left everyone astonished, as she cleared her 10th grade with distinction. Following years Sonia kept maintaining her brilliant academics. Regardless of her outstanding academic performance, however, she decided she wanted to pursue Music as a career.[1] Sonia did her 2 years Bachelor of Performing Arts from Sree Swati Tirunal College of Music. Later she did her Bachelor of Music as well as Masters in Music from the Institute of Madras University, Chepauk, Chennai.
