Sonja Ýr Þorbergsdóttir (born 15 August 1982) is an Icelandic lawyer and chairman of the trade union BSRB. This is the largest association of public employees in Iceland. All public service unions in the public sector, municipalities and the private sector can become members of BSRB. It was founded on February 14, 1942. Today it has 19 member associations and about 23,000 members.
Education and career[edit]
Sonja has completed a BS degree in Business Law and an ML degree in law from Bifröst University[1]. She worked as a lawyer for BSRB 2008–2017. She was elected chairman of BSRB in 2018. BSRB is the largest federation of public worker unions in Iceland. The federation was established on 14th February 1942 and today the affiliated unions are 19 with over 23,000 members. About two third of the members are women.[2] BSRB is a member of the Nordic trade union confederation NFS. Sonja was the chairman of NFS in 2018.[3]
