Sonu Gandhi (born 23 January 1971) is an Indian fashion designer from Ludhiana[1] who designs and markets her clothes under her designer label of Sonu Gandhi.

Early Life and Education[edit]

Sonu was born in Ludhiana in 1971, but spent most of her childhood in the city of Kolkata, West Bengal due to her father's work. It was Kolkata that brought out her love for fashion. Wandering in the then bazaars of the city, but the real turning point came when she won the Calcutta Beauty Pageant twice.[1] She finished her graduation from the prestigious Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana and had no formal training in the field of Fashion.[2] She started her fashion career by holding exhibitions across the country in various cities.[3]

Career[edit]

Sonu Gandhi shifted to Ludhiana in 1997 and that is when she entered the world of fashion with full throttle. There was lot of difference between the fashion of Kolkata and of Ludhiana. Kolkata had more of subtle trends and Ludhiana had more taste for bling. Sonu Gandhi has shared the stage with the national level designers like Ritu Kumar, Satya Paul, Mona Pali and many more at the Chandigarh Fashion Week and Punjab International Fashion Week . Her numerous shows in the local clubs of Ludhiana and her regular reviews in different newspapers and magazines of Punjab spoke accolades of her designing power.[2] She has organized fashion shows in Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Dubai and Singapore.[1]
