Sophie Corcoran is a Journalist, Broadcaster and Political Commentator who appears on GB News, Jeremy Vine and Talk Radio. She also writes articles for the digital british tabloid newspaper Mail Online as well as The Telegraph and Daily Mirror. She was also a footballer for Leyton Orient WFC and the F.A Womens National League.

Early Life[edit]

Corcoran was born in Thurrock in 2002, she is one of identical twins. She was born into an affluent family who reside in South Ockendon, her Mother being a Pharmeceutical Manager and her Dad being a Manufactuing Manager. She attended Harris Academy Ockendon and attended sixth form at Harris Academy Chafford Hundred, where she stayed an extra year to re-take her exams due to not being able to in 2020 due to Covid-19 outbreak.

Conservative Party Career[edit]

Corcoran stood as a Conservative Party candiate in the 2021 Thurrock Council Elections but lost[1] to long-standing Labour councillor John Kent by 292 votes. By recieving 838 votes, she recieved the most conservative votes for this seat historically. As an under 25, she also stood as the Vice Chairperson of the Young Conservatives in Basildon and Thurrock alongside Tarkan Oz, the honed Nightingale London Medic[2] and Young Conservatives Chairman. Corcoran also served as the Branch Chairperson for Ockendon up until early 2022. Whilst never officially resigning, Corcoran was not actively involved in the Conservative Party since late 2021 and left all WhatsApp groups in early 2022, which her chairman took as her resignation.

Broadcasting Career[edit]

Her broadcasting career stemmed from writing articles for various newspapers such as the Mail Online[3], the digital version of the british tabloid newspaper the Daily Mail, as well as the premium version of the Mail Online - Mail Plus. Corcoran also wrote for The Daily Telegraph, iNews and the Daily Mirror. Whilst appearing on Talk Radio and Jeremy Vine, her most regular appearences are on GB News where she has since gained a controversial reputation. Her first appearance was in 2021 alongside resident host Patrick Christys[4], but now Corcoran appears regularly discussing controversial issues such as the handling of coronavirus pandemic[5], trans rights and has recently made some strong comments with regards to gender neutral toilets.

Twitter[edit]

Corcoran has over 65,000 followers on her verified twitter account[6]. She recieved her verified status in March 2022 when she had around 50,000 followers.

NHS Comments[edit]

Corcoran was slated after uploading a picture to her twitter account comparing NHS staff eating pizza during the coronavirus lockdown to Prime Minister Boris Johnson and others in 10 Downing Street breaking the law with regards to social gatherings during the pandemic. Corcoran was demanded to issue an apology on multiple occasions but claimed "the NHS is not a religion, it is a public service and a failing one at that"[7]. Jo Maugham, who is a professor at Durham University where Corcoran studies, claimed "she is deliberately spreading a lie that, in this climate, could endanger the lives of entirely innocent NHS staff"[8].

Football Career[edit]

Corcoran formerly played for Leyton Orient W.F.C., which is the female wing of football club Leyton Orient, as a defender both in the adult division and the under 18's division. She also played for the F.A Womens National League. She left after the scandal in which Leyton Orient cut ties with their already established female wing [9].

University[edit]

Now a business management student at Durham University, she campaigns for womens rights and is noteable for her anti-trans views, especially around gender-neutral toilets. Corcoran ran in 2022 to be the president of the students union but lost to Joseph McGarry[10].
