South-Eastern Sydney is the metropolitan area directly to the south-east of the Sydney central business district in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It is a southern sub-region of the Greater Eastern Suburbs of Sydney.

The area is south of The Centennial Parklands and east of the Eastern Distributor. It includes the entirety of suburbs within the local government area of Randwick and the eastern part of Bayside Council. In rare instances the region is referred to as being part of South Sydney or the southern suburbs, particularly the part within Bayside Council due to the fact that these suburbs are practically south from the CBD.[1]

The postcodes start at 2031 with Randwick and Clovelly and continue to 2036 in La Perouse and surrounding suburbs with the addition of 2019 in Botany and Banksmeadow as well the eastern non residential portion of Eastlakes being 2018. The UNSW has the postcode 2052.

Politically, this area falls approximately within the federal division of Kingsford Smith and the state government electoral district of Maroubra as well as part of Coogee and Heffron. It roughly corresponds with the cadastral Parish of Botany.

The Eastern Distributor provides access from the northern part of the Sydney CBD to the south-eastern suburbs.[2]

The inner southern suburbs of the City of Sydney and Bayside Council which are south of Central Station, west of The Eastern Distributor and north of the Airport Starting with Redfern and ending in Mascot are sometimes included as part of the south-east however strictly speaking these suburbs are geographically not south-east of Sydney CBD.

Transport[edit]

Sydney's south-east has a light rail which was completed in 2020 splitting into two lines called T2 and T3. T2 terminates in Randwick at Prince of Wales Hospital and T3 terminates in Kingsford at The Juniors Leagues Club. Both lines takes residents of these suburbs as well as Kensington to Circular Quay via Moore Park, Surry Hills, Central Station and Sydney central business district.[3]
