South Hedland stabbing attack

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

On 1 May 2020, Ashley Fildes, a 34 year old man from Perth, Western Australia, stabbed seven people in South Hedland just before 10am, before being fatally shot by police.[1][2][3][4][5]

The attacker had an altercation with his manager and had to be driven from his worksite to a motel.[5]

The attack began at a motel where the attacker stabbed a man, then he went to the local McDonald's where he stabbed another man before entering the shopping centre where he attacked two men and three women.[1][2] Witnesses said the attacker was wearing a high-visibility jacket.[3][4] Police tried to subdue the man, including using a taser, but the attacker was fatally shot by an officer after he lunged at them.[1][2]

Five of the victims treated at the local hospital then released. One was flown to Royal Perth Hospital with critical injuries.[6]

Police said there was no indication that the attack was politically or ideologically motivated, describing it as a tragedy.[1][2][3]

The attacker was identified as a fly-in fly-out worker in his 30s who was known to police.[1][2] He was a father of one.[5]

The Western Australia Police Union president said that a team had been deployed to assist the two officers, a man and woman, involved in the incident.[1]
