SparkCognition is a manufacturer of artificial intelligence systems and cognitive computing analytics platforms. The company was founded in Austin, Texas, by Amir Husain in 2013.[1][2][3]

SparkCognition automates the building of AI systems,[4] and its technology is primarily utilized in the oil and gas, finance, manufacturing, telecommunications, aerospace, and defense industries.[2]

SparkCognition is a venture-backed company with a total of 27 investors. The first investor was Michael Dell, and some others include John Chambers, Malcolm Turnbull, Andrew Liveris, John Thornton, Boeing, Brevan Howard Investment Holdings, the US Department of Energy, Verizon Ventures, Hearts Ventures, and Temasek Holdings. It has raised around $163 million to date.[6][7][8]

In 2018, SparkCognition and partner Boeing entered into a joint venture on SkyGrid, a system that uses AI and blockchain tech to coordinate unmanned aircraft and passenger aerial vehicles.[9][10][11]

On March 26, 2019, SparkCognition announced its collaboration with Aker BP ASA to develop AI applications that will help monitor oil rigs for Aker BP’s “Cognitive Operation” project.[12][non-primary source needed] On July 3, 2019, Hitachi High-Technologies Corporation announced that they would partner with SparkCognition to distribute SparkCognition’s automated machine learning platform, Darwin, in Asia.[13][non-primary source needed]

Since 2017, SparkCognition has hosted Time Machine, an annual conference centered around artificial intelligence and future technology, in Austin.[14][15]
