Speda TV (Kurdish: کەناڵی سپێدە; Arabic: قناة سبيدة)[1][2] is a Kurdish satellite television station in Kurdistan Region, Iraq, broadcasting since 21, March, 2009.[3] Based in Erbil, the channel broadcasts programs in various Kurdish languages, Sorani and Kurmanji. It has several offices throughout Iraq,[4] as well as offices outside Iraq. It is one of the media and news satellite channels in the region, where it is owned by the Kurdistan Islamic Union Party, and the head of the channel is Dr. Abdul Karim Ahmed.[5][6][7][8]

Platform[edit]

Speda has correspondents in various parts of the Middle East and Europe. Speda publishes in the Kurdish dialects Sorani and Kurmanji as well as in Arabic.[9][10]

An online platform that covers Kurdish issues in both Kurdish dialects. The website also publishes news and information in Arabic and Kurmanji.[11][12]

Violations of correspondents[edit]

The correspondents of Speda TV were beaten, imprisoned and violated several times in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, by the ruling parties. The channel was banned several times to cover the most important political events in the region.[15][16][17]

Charitable Campaigns[edit]

Speda has several huge charitable campaigns in cooperation with Iraqi charitable organizations for Syrian refugees inside Iraq and those affected by the war in the Kurdish areas in Syria, and those affected by the floods in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.[18][19]
