Spyros Filippou (born 5 July 1977), is a Greek professional football coach and former football player who is currently free agent.

Following a semi-pro career as a player across Greek fourth and fifth divisions, and also English football pyramid, Filippou studied Computer Science at the University of Essex, and acquired also a MSc in Information Systems at East Anglia University. In 2012, 2017 and 2018 he attended coaching courses at the Hellenic Football Federation (EPO) and acquired the UEFA Coaching Diplomas.

Playing career[edit]

Born in Drama, Greece, Filippou joined the Academy of Doxa Dramas at age 12 and rose through the ranks of Doxa's youth academy for 4 years. Subsequently, he played at many teams of the fourth (Megas Alexandros Iraklias, Kalampaki F.C., Pandramaikos F.C.) and fifth division of Greece. He also played at low level English leagues.

Coaching career[edit]

Immediately after retiring, Filippou began his career as a manager. On 2011., Filippou managed the team of Aris Ftelias F.C., 7th division, as head coach. In his first season at the team he was very successful finishing first and winning the championship. The club was promoted to the higher division.

The next season, 2012–13, was also triumphant and Aris Ftelias won again the championship, 6th division, and was promoted to the 5th division of Greece. In the summer of 2013, Filippou renewed his agreement with the team. The season was a good one finishing above the relegation zone. In July 2015, Filippou took over management of Greek Women's First National League side Amazones Dramas WS. In his first season at Amazones he was very successful driving the team in to 3rd place and playing at the Greek’s Women Cup Final (Runners-up). His record in the first year seemed to confirm Amazones chairman idea on using young Greek coach to lead the team for the next season, 2016-17. The season was also successful, as the team reached the 3rd place, and the budget was lower than the previous year. In the summer of 2017, Filippou renewed his contract with Amazones for one more year. The budget of the team has been further reduced, but the season was very satisfied, as the club reached the 4th place, and had in the roster 7 Greeks and 2 Cypriots international players (Women, U19, U17).

At the moment Filippou Spyros is a free agent manager.
