Squirrly is a software as a service (SaaS) company based in London that sells multiple online visibility and marketing analytics software programs. "Squirrly" is a Trademark [2] of Squirrly Limited which is the official name of the company.[3][4][5][6][7] It was founded by Florin Muresan and Calin Vingan in 2012, after they received a round of angel investment.[8][9][10] Back then, TechCrunch mentioned it as "Squirrly is the game that gets your products and skills noticed online on over-drive.".[11] They combined a WordPress plug-in with a SaaS, which allowed Squirrly to provide website traffic information, keywords, Website audit, Search engine results page positioning info, intelligence data, Content audit, Backlink analysis, and a few more as a SEO tool.[12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21]

Florin Muresan and Calin Vingan started off with the SEO software and wanted to build a tool that other companies and professionals could feel very comfortable using. This lead them completely open up to their customer base. Customer service became one of the most important goals.[citation needed]

To understand the needs of the market even better, the founders of Squirrly became involved (mentoring, teaching SEO, sponsoring) in many business events in London and Cluj,[22][23][24] which helped the tool increase in popularity and a community of influencers grew as a result. However, the real market of the tool is the United States, as can be seen on the Alexa charts, where it shows that it is more popular in the US, than it is in other countries.

After the company grew in popularity,[25] it began developing and selling multiple software products, as well as content marketing classes taught online.[26][27][28] Squirrly SEO moved on from being available only on WordPress to being available on Shopify as well,[29] though the company seems to treat them as two different products. The WordPress version keeps getting reviews on different platforms.[30][31][32][33][34][35]

Starbox was the second product developed by Squirrly, and it started out as a free plug-in.[36][37] It was easier to install and use, so it became popular with WordPress users, as per the reviews received.[38]

On 18 February 2015, Squirrly released the PRO version of their Starbox plug-in, a tool meant for authors and bloggers.[39]

In April 2019, Squirrly launched Squirrly Social,[40] as a different SaaS, useful for social media marketing. It has gained more popularity after being listed by SaaSworthy on their marketplace.[41] Then on Capterra and a few others [42][43][44]

Squirrly also sells: Squirrly Digital (a collection of software), Squirrly SPY,[45] ContentLook. It has three other projects: Website Analysis Plugin, Learning Solutions and Content Marketing Game: Age of Startups.[46]

The concept of Focus Pages and the feature they created for this, helped Squirrly stay relevant in 2019 and now in 2020.[47][48][49]

Nowadays Squirrly is recognized for developing and publishing multiple software programs for small business. This helped the company grow its customer base to 6,455 business customers, as per the latest reported number.[50]

By February 2020, the company's plugin Starbox was downloaded 284,500 times, while Squirrly SEO (the flag-ship plugin) was downloaded 3,011,843 times.
