Sreejith Panickar is a political analyst,[1][2] television news debater,[3] researcher,[4][5][6][7] writer[8] and a social critic from Kerala. He gives opinion on political issues and government policies on national and regional television.[9][10]
Researcher[edit]
Panickar is the founder-member of Mission Netaji, an Indian not-for-profit organisation that conducts research on the disappearance of Subhas Chandra Bose.[11][12][13] In 2015, Panickar accessed the particulars of 36 of the 41 secret PMO files on Netaji, using RTI Act.[14] These files related to information on Netaji's family, funeral of his wife Emilie Schenkl, Bharat Ratna controversy, disposal of INA properties, transfer of Bose's alleged ashes to India, and the construction of a Bose memorial in New Delhi.[14] Indian government declassified these files later after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's meeting with Bose's family members and researchers including Panickar.[15]
Political analyst[edit]
Panickar's socio-political opinions often get featured as news stories of leading media houses.[16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23] His debates on the citizenship amendment act, farm acts, Sabarimala issue and gained wide mixed and adverse popularity on Malayalam television and public platforms.[24][25][26][27]
In August 2020, Panickar boycotted a Media One TV debate as the channel wanted to introduce him as a right-wing analyst.[28] Panickar himself revealed this on a Facebook live and said he could not allow a TV channel's editorial board to infringe on his personal freedom,[29] and criticised the channel's double standard as it didn't apply political spectrum for all analysts on their shows.[30]
Panicker is widely criticized for his insensitive comments in Facebook. During the COVID-19 second wave in India, he made rape jokes on COVID-19 volunteers shifting a patient to hospital on a bike during emergency. He often post misogynistic and derogatory posts in his Facebook page. He replies to the comments in uncivilized manner.[31][32]Also he has sparked controversy by posting a facebook post which has communal slur in it about the marriage of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's Daughter.
