St. Ruth Kindergarten and Primary is a Christian Kindergarten and Primary school located in Kentmere area off Limuru road. St. Ruth Junior & Senior Boys Secondary School is a full-term boarding school located in Gilgil, Nakuru. The schools were established in 2016. The kindergarten program incorporates the Montessori approach. Primary education is offered in both the Kenyan and British curricula. Secondary offers both the Kenyan and British National Curriculum (BNC) Cambridge education as well.

St. Ruth Schools are recognized by the Kenya Private Schools Association as a reputable institution.[1]

History and operations

Established in 2016, the Christian-based private schools cater for students from preschool through secondary school.

Academics

St. Ruth follows both the Kenyan National Education System and the British Education system. The Kenyan National Education System is structured on the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC), 2-6-3-3-3, with learners spending 2 years in Pre-primary, 6 years in Primary (Grade 1–6), 3 years in Junior Secondary (Grade 7, 8, 9), 3 years in Senior Secondary (grade 10,11,12) - retaining 12 years of basic education schooling - and 3 years in university[2]. The British system of education has eight to nine years of preparatory/primary school, followed by two to three years of secondary school (culminating in the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE), and thereafter two years of high school leading to the Advanced Level qualification.

Extra-curricular Activities

St. Ruth offers the following extra-curricular activities: Chess[3], French, Arts and Crafts, Music/Piano, ICT/Programming, Tae kwondo, Football, Basketball, Ballet, Swimming, Archery, Guitar, Tennis and Golf[4].

Clubs at the school include: Scouts, Science, Business, Cookery, Young Farmers, Drama, Poetry and Public Speaking.

Admission

The academic year begins in early January for Term 1, May for Term 2 and September for Term 3 under the CBC. Under BNC the academic year begins in September for Term 1, January for Term 2 and April for Term 3. However, entry to the school is on a rolling basis and students may be accepted at any time in the year. Acceptance follows an evaluation of the child's previous academic record, entry assessment tests and placement fit to the schools.
