It was set up in 2004 by the Archdiocese of Changanassery and is affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. History

The first principal was Prof. John Sankaramangalam, a filmmaker and former head of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune. He led the college from 2004 to 2011 and served as Academic Chairman until 2018.[5] In February 2019, the college began the Prof. John Sankaramangalam Memorial Lecture Series.
