Stagnant Project is a Latvian extreme metal band from Riga, Latvia, formed in 2010. The name is an ironic personification of the current metal scene for "one-day" metal bands, who wish not to be stagnant and move forward, but next day disband and abandon a project for lack of will. The band has gone through numerous sound and line-up changes, though the frontman and outrageous shows became fundamental for them.
Despite the fact that the band themselves categorize their music style as extreme metal and first tapes had a typical groove sound, Audiøpizduly EP has an industrial metal influenced tone. Later on, Stagnant Project mixed all previous experience into a full-length album, The Age of Giant Monsters, continuing with combining groove and industrial.[1][2] together.
Criticism
The band often becomes a subject of questionable criticism locally for unearthly performances and provocative social media campaigns. In spite of that, The Age of Giant Monsters album received positive feedback from reviewers[3] and press, pointing out that this is the first conceptual album[4] with a narrator released in Latvia.
History
The band finished their first demo album Rorschach Test in 2012. The same year, they won a local contest, Fresh Blood ’11[5] and were nominated for Latvian Metal Awards for Best Young Metal Band in Latvia ’11[6].
The first breaking point in the notable line-up change happened two years later, in 2014, when the EP album Zombie Show was released. It was their first conceptual album and the formation of the band’s current style. And in half a year, with new members onboard, the Satanican Dream single was revealed.
Having a trend to release a title bi-yearly – next AudiØpizduly[7] EP in 2016 firmly consolidated a comic/geek concept, and the first official music video was revealed. Later that year, Nagibathor single fulfilled the band’s library with the same influence. Moreover, the front man became an official endorser of AMT electronics[8]
In 2018, the debut conceptual LP album The Age of Giant Monsters was released. It is the first conceptual album with a narrator in Latvia. The album was supported by a second official music video of the main song.
Members
The current line-up is a consolidation of original members, in the face of the drummer and vocalist, and also former members of Lifeform[9] band created the same year and disbanded four years later.
