Startled Calf is an American hardcore punk band from El Paso, Texas, United States, formed in 1991. It featured Omar Rodriguez-López on vocals,[1] Ralph Jasso on guitar,[2] Jimmy Hernandez on bass, and George Fraska (Hosni) on drums.
Rodriguez-López dropped out of high school to go on tour with the band while aged 17, and was left stranded in Berkeley after the rest of the band were arrested.[3]
The band was considered to be one of the most rowdy in El Paso at the time, according to Cedric Bixler-Zavala.[1]
The band broke up in 1992. Several years later, on July 8, 1995, Hernandez died of cancer the day after his 21st birthday. The other members are still making music in many different creative forms.[4][5]
