Stella Kesaeva (Russian: Стелла Юрьевна Кесаева; born 6 April 1965 in Vladikavkaz) is a russian art collector and philanthropist. She is the founder of the Stella Art Foundation.
Career[edit]
In 2003 founded Stella Art Gallery, then Stella Art Foundation, she was the first in Russia to hold private exhibitions of works by outstanding American artists: Andy Warhol, Tom Wesselmann, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Alex Katz, David Salle.
In 2004 she was one of the organisers of the first exhibition by Ilya and Emilia Kabakov after their emigration from Russia “An Incident in the Museum and other Installations” in the State Hermitage
In 2009 and 2010 Stella Kesaeva organised 3 exposition projects devoted to Russian contemporary art in Kunsthistorisches Museum of Vienna: collection by Stella Art Foundation “That Obscure Object of Art”, an exhibition-intervention in northern Renaissance halls “Igor Makarevich and Elena Yelagina. In Situ”, and an exhibition-intervention in halls of the Ancient Greek and Roman art “Boris Orlov. Circle of heroes”.
Stella Art Foundation collection contains more than 100 art works of Russian and western artists since the 70s of the XXth century. Throughout the years the Foundation has hold more than 100 art projects that popularised works of modern Russian artists abroad and in Russia itself.
In 2010 Stella Kesaeva was appointed commissioner of the Russian pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2011, 2013 and 2015.
Awards[edit]
2010 — Stella Kesaeva became the winner of the All-Russian contemporary art competition “Innovation” in category “For promoting Russian contemporary art”.
2011 — was awarded with the Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art.
2016 — awarded with the prize by The Art Newspaper Russia in category “Personal Contribution”.
