Stephen Purdy
Stephen Purdy (born 1970 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi) is a musician and author known as the writer of books on Flop Broadway Musicals[1] and a book on theatrical song performance called "Musical Theatre Song: A Comprehensive Course."[2] Bloomsbury published the latter in 2016 and Routledge the former in 2020 under the title "Flop Musicals of The Twenty First Century: How They Happened When They Happened (and what we've learned.)" Future volumes of the "Flop Musicals" series have been promised.
Stephen Purdy is a vocal and performance coach for Broadway and West End actors and his biography states that he "regularly delivers master classes at arts institutions around the globe." He is also a conductor and pianist for Broadway shows and touring companies having served as musical conductor for (among others) Cathy Rigby in "Peter Pan" off-Broadways "The Fantasticks" and "Frankenstein" and several touring productions. Before working on Broadway and in the literary and education fields, Purdy worked as a Wall Street broker.[3]
Purdy studied vocal performance and piano at the University of Mississippi and Vocal Pedagogy at Westminster Choir College [4]
He is on the Voice and Musical Theatre Faculty at Marymount Manhattan College in New York City [5]
