Stewart "Stu" Umholtz is an American politician from the U.S. state of Illinois. He is currently the Tazewell County State's Attorney, where he has served since 1995. He is the only State's Attorney in Illinois to successfully prosecute a sitting State Supreme Court Justice.
In 2006, Umholtz was the Republican nominee for Illinois Attorney General but lost to incumbent Democrat Lisa Madigan.
Umholtz filmed a campaign advertisement for the unsuccessful gubernatorial campaign of Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher in 2007 in which he talked about the adverse side effects of legalized casino gambling.[1]
