Strawberry Morakot (Script error: The function "langx" does not exist.) is the debut extended play by Thai independent singer Babyjolystar. The EP was officially released on August 3, 2024, by Babyjolystar. The main musical style of the EP focuses on brat and rap. The EP includes the hit single "Strawberry Morakot", which won Song of the Year in 2024.

Background

On July 24, 2024, the EP cover image was released one month prior to its streaming debut. The image attracted a diverse audience and generated comments regarding the new album.[2]

On September 2, 2024, Although the correct Thai spelling would be “สตรอว์เบอร์รีมรกต” (Strawberry Morakot), James intentionally wrote it as “สตอร์เบอรี่มรกต” and noted in the song’s YouTube description:

“เพลงสตอร์เบอรี่มรกต ผิดหลักแกรมม่า ไม่มีอะไรจริงแท้แน่นอน เหมือนกาเว้กาเหว่าที่ตั้งคำถามว่าสตอร์เบอรี่มรกตเป็นใครเล่า”[3]

The song’s lyrics explain who “Strawberry Morakot” refers to. James stated in an interview that he did not expect the song to gain widespread popularity; however, upon release, it became successful. He described the music as a style he personally enjoys and one that genuinely reflects his identity. Initially, he had no intention of officially releasing the track, but during a livestream on social media, he played it for viewers. A fan named Nong Kae suggested that he release it, leading to the decision to publish the song along with three others as part of an album. The release later gained popularity due to its simple and accessible lyrics, suitable for listeners of all genders. Regarding the origin of the name “Strawberry Morakot”, James explained that it came from a personal childhood preference. Originally, his mother had named him “James”, but he once requested to change his name to “Nong Strawberry”, a name that stayed in his memory. Later, he added “Morakot” as a surname, inspired by actress Amy Morakot, whom he admired. As a child, he would always write his full name as “Strawberry Morakot” when playing with friends.[4]
