Strengeplukk
Strengeplukk (formerly Strengeplukk & Felegnukk) is a bluegrass band established in Stavanger in 2015.
The band is mainly a bluegrass band, inspired by the neo-traditional style of bands like Kentucky Thunder and early Mountain Heart. But their music is also partially inspired by progressive bluegrass, especially Punch Brothers and Béla Fleck. The band members also contribute with their own unique musical backgrounds with elements from Norwegian folk music, jazz, pop music and rock. On their live performances, they usually use a one-mic setup, depending on the acoustics in the venue.[1]
The group started forming when the three jazz students Jakob Folke Ossum (guitar), Nikolai Storevik (fiddle) and eventually Andreas Barsnes Onarheim (mandolin) started to learn some fiddle tunes together at the practice rooms at The Faculty of Performing Arts at The University of Stavanger in the fall of 2015. The trio wanted to expand to a full bluegrass quintet, which led to Andreas contacting his friend Thorbjørn Bilstad Olsen (banjo) that he had played with in the bluegrass band Bjergsted Blågraslaug. Later, Lasse Gjestrud joined in on double bass for one year until he was replaced by Vidar Starheimsæter in the fall of 2016.[2]
In 2016 they released the EP "Strengeplukk & Felegnukk" and in 2018 they released their debut album "Fjellvegen" (Fjorden Music).
