"Stuart and the Ave." is a song by American rock band Green Day, released as the ninth track from the band's second studio album Insomniac (1995).
Background[edit]
The title of the song refers to the corner of Stuart Street and Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley, California, where Green Day originated.[1] Lyrically, the song deals with themes of breakup, filled with bad feelings and resentment.[2]
Live performances[edit]
One of the first known performances of "Stuart and the Ave." came as a soundcheck for Green Day's upcoming Jaded in Chicago concert in November 1994, roughly one year before the song's release.[3]
In July 2009, the band teased "Stuart and the Ave." during a performance at Madison Square Garden, with frontman Billie Joe Armstrong forgetting the lyrics.[4]
In April 2015, the band performed "Stuart and the Ave." for the first time publicly at a House of Blues in Cleveland, Ohio.[5]
