Studio Irma (born 1980) is a Dutch contemporary artist, now based in Amsterdam. Her work combines augmented reality, projection mapping, sculpture, computer animation, painting, and digital art. She creates digital immersive art exhibitions, spaces, and experiences. Studio Irma combines art and technology, often using non-duality and personal development as central themes to her work.[1] By directing theories of Connectivism, she aims to portray a more connected future in the digital age. Studio Irma incorporates space, color, technology, movement, and an active participant to manifest her digital immersive experiences.

Biography

Studio Irma was born in Wieringerwerf, the Netherlands. From a young age, she was captivated by strong contrasts like the difference between good and evil. It was a powerful division that led her to explore the 'grey areas' in life and art. Studio Irma builds installation art rooms as a virtual escape, to communicate that 'art is healing'.

Career

She was accepted to the Gerrit Rietveld Academie at 18, and during her studies, she balanced modeling and a beginning career as an artist. Shortly after graduating the academie with a degree in video art, she became one of the first female VJs in the Netherlands. Her early video work led to collaborative projects with Rineke Dijkstra, Shirin Neshat, Peter Greenaway, and Peter Schneider.

Studio Irma often works in the field of augmented reality. She's partnered with Heineken, Denham Jeans, BE@RBRICK, and the Moco PLAY App for Moco Museum.

Since establishing her own artistic practice, Studio Irma has produced work that is diverse in its technical capabilities.
