Sujan DasGupta (Bengali): সুজন দাশগুপ্ত is an Asian Indian author best known for his creation of the first comedic[1][2][3] fictional Bengali detective character Ekenbabu in Bengali literature.
Background
Sujan came to the US in 1967 to do graduate studies in Mechanical Engineering. After receiving his PhD in 1970, he joined Bell Laboratories and retired after working for 30 years. While doing research and development work, he started writing essays and fiction for young adults, which were subsequently published in popular Bengali magazines like Anandamela, Kishormon, etc.[4]. After his retirement, along with another retired Bell Lab technologist, Sumit Roy, he started working on a Bengali language website to provide information on health, law, science, and social issues for those who are not conversant in English. Launched in 2002, Abasar.net [1] was the first information website in the Bengali language[5]. By this time, he had written quite a few books on puzzles, published by Ananda Publishers and other publishers. His fictional detective character Ekenbabu first appeared in Anandamela in the 80's and became popular among young readers. Later stories of Ekenbabu were written for all adults in mind and appeared in popular magazines, like Sukhigrahokon, Saptahik Bartaman, etc. He has written several books on Ekenbabu, some of which have been collected in four volumes of Ekenbabu Samagro[6]

Film/Web series
Eken Babu web series Ekenbabu appeared in an original web series of Hoichoi. The first season with a 10-episode web series was released in March 2018. Because of its popularity, it was followed by three more seasons.
