Sunny Moza is an Indian actor, M.C., host, radio jockey, and stand-up[1] currently based in California[2] who made his acting debut as a TV actor in mainstream Indian TV.[3] He is known for playing the lead role in the music video Ab Laut Aa, a single by Sunidhi Chauhan,[3] that was produced by Sanjoy in 2013[4] as well as for hosting America's biggest Indian dance reality TV show, Dance USA Dance,[3] with Saroj Khan in 2017.[5]
Early and personal life[edit]
Sunny was born and raised in Jammu, J&K, India.[1][2] His second cousin, Kunal Khemu, is a Bollywood actor.[2]
Career[edit]
Although Sunny has a Masters in Computer Engineering from San Jose State University,[3] he also took film and acting classes at local colleges.[2][6][7] He began his acting career as a TV actor in mainstream Indian TV with ad campaigns and commercials[7] as well as supporting roles in Bhabhi (TV series) and Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi in 2004.[3] Around that time, Sunny took part in the San Francisco India Pageant and received the Director's Award as well.[8] A few years later in 2008, he released his film Kurse[2][6] which received the Audience Award at the Northern California Film Festival[3] followed by another film called Love Fool[7] which screened at the Silicon Valley Film Festival in 2011.[9] That year, Sunny also co-acted with Ali Fazal in According to Plan A,[10] a film which won the Best of the Fest award at the Riverside International Film Festival,[3] and was featured in the book Kashmiri People.[11]
Then in 2013, Sunny played the lead in a music video for Sunidhi Chauhan's first single, Ab Laut Aa,[3] which was produced by Sanjoy and received more than a million views online.[4] He also appeared in the film Yellow which premiered at IFFSA Toronto[3] and was released on the NDTV Profit-Prime Channel in 2015.[12][13] Later in 2016, Sunny starred as the hero in Vibrations of Pulse, a dance musical with Omi Vaidya.[14] Last year, he enacted in a mainstream premiere of Ideation, the award winning play by Aaron Loeb.[3][15]
Besides acting, Sunny has also hosted Bollywood shows and events for the likes of Waheeda Rehman, Adnan Sami, and Javed Jaffrey[8] as well as Arijit Singh, Akshay Kumar, Sunny Leone, Kumar Sanu, and Shreya Ghoshal.[16] In 2017, he hosted the biggest Indian dance reality show, Dance USA Dance,[3] with Saroj Khan.[5] Earlier this year, Sunny hosted and performed the opening stand-up comedy acts for some of India's top stand-up comedians like Amit Tandon, Varun Thakur, and Zakir Khan.[1] In the future, he will be appearing in the Kannada feature film Babru with Suman Nagarkar[17] and releasing his Hindi feature film Kaaya.[3]
