Superman: Flyby
Superman: Flyby is a scrapped America superhero film based on the DC Comics character Superman. The film was written by J.J. Abrams and produced by Neal H. Moritz and Gilbert Adler and would star Matt Bomer, Robert Downey, Jr and Joel Edgerton.
Plot[edit]
Due to an ongoing Civil War on the planet Krypton, infant Kal-El was sent away to Earth where he is adopted by Jonathan and Martha Kent who name Kal "Clark". Clark forms a love interest with Lois Lane at the Daily Planet. Kal's reveal as Superman grabs the attention of five Kryptonians including Kata-Zor, Superman's rival uncle, who challenges Superman. Kata eventually kills Superman but is resurrected. The resurrected Superman then heads to defeat Kata and the other Kryptonians.

Development[edit]
In July 2002, J.J. Abrams submitted his script in for Superman: Flyby. In September, Brett Ratner was hired to direct expressing interest in casting a lesser-known actor for the lead role of Superman. Neal H. Moritz and Gilbert Adler were set to produce the film. Ratner opted out as director in March 2003 and was replaced by McG due to casting conflicts.
Casting[edit]
Ratner approached Josh Hartnett, Jude Law, Paul Walker, and Brendan Fraser for the role of Superman, but eventually cast Matt Bomer. Keri Russell and Amy Adams both auditioned for the role of Lois Lane. Christopher Walken entered negotiations in portraying Perry White. Ratner expressed interest in Anthony Hopkins and Ralph Fiennes for the roles of Superman's father Jor-El and Lex Luthor. Robert Downey, Jr was eventually cast as Luthor. When McG was hired as director, he approached Shia LeBouf for the role of Jimmy Olsen and Scarlett Johansson for Lois. Joel Edgerton was cast as Ty-Zor after turning down the role of Superman.
