Swami Amit Dev (also known as Yogacharya Amit Dev, former name 'Amit Ahuja'), is a Senior Yoga therapist and Head Yogacharya at Shri Yog Abhyas Ashram Trust,[1] which was founded by Yogeshwar Ramlal Bhagwan. Existing since 1916, the organization is engaged in yoga and meditation activities.[2][3] The organisation manages more than 75 Divya Yog Mandirs across the world, where Yoga trainers learn teaching and Yog-specific skills.[4]
Yoga Camps[edit]
Swami Amit Dev organised Mahaprabhu Ji's Yoga Camp in June 2017 at Chhatrasal Stadium,[5] to teach yoga to dozens of men and women.[2] This 3-day camp was attended by over 4500 people. He also organised a yoga camp in Russia to spread Mahaprabhu Ji's yoga techniques.[6] Swami Amit is also a visiting yoga guru at Carnoustie Ayurveda & Wellness Resort[7] where he has conducted yoga sessions for Irina Viner and Halle Berry.[8]
Education and Interests[edit]
Born in a yogic family, Swami Amit got influenced from his grandfather and yoga guru - Yogeshwar Devi Dayal, and father - Yogeshwar Surender Dev. He started learning yoga and meditation from the age of three.
Amit has a degree in Multimedia and applications, but he also takes interest in technology & science, management studies, fine art, and commercial art.[3]
Swami Amit Dev's Succession for Fifth Guru Gaddi[edit]
On 26 October 2016, Amit was declared as Pradhan Yogacharya Dev and Fifth Guru Gaddi as per the direction of Swami Surender Dev Ji Maharaj in the linage of Yogeshwar Ramlal Bhagwan (also known as Mahaprabhu Ramlal Ji Maharaj).[9]
About Shri Yog Abhyas Ashram[edit]
Shri Yog Abhyas Ashram was established in 1888 by Yogeshwar Ramlal Bhagwan. In 1938, Yogeshwar Mulakhraj Bhagwan was declared as second successor, followed by Yogeshwar Devi Dayal Mahadev who became Third successor in 1951. In 1998, Yogeshwar Surender Dev Ji Maharaj got appointed as the Fourth successor & head Yogacharya.[10]
The organization is headquartered in Delhi, India and it has 17 state units and 76 centers in India.[11]
Swami Amit's View on Yoga[edit]
Swami Amit has been contributing as the health consultant in Yogeshwar Devi Dayal International Yogic Cure & Research Center from 1991.[12] He says:
Yoga is not a system of mere physical exercise. It is essentially a path leading to union with the divine. As such, it involves leading a pure life, increases the power of concentration, enhances willpower and above all, instills faith in God.[13]
