Sword Heaven were an American noise band from Columbus, Ohio formed in 2002 by Mark Van Fleet and Aaron Hibbs when they were living at and helping curate Skylab Gallery. Over the years Mike Shiflet and Chad Shepherd would contribute to the band, both on recordings and in a live setting. Hibbs's intense tribal drumming coupled with Van Fleet's use of sheet metal, horns, and various treated sounds.[1] gave the band a heaviness and accessibility that earned their live performances a large cult following across the Midwest and tours and performances with artists like Wolf Eyes, Keith Fullerton Whitman, and Wooden Shjips[2]
After years of issuing small-run cassettes and CDRs, 2007 saw the release of the band's first proper LP, Entrance, on Load Records[3], which was followed by 2010's Load. In 2011 Hibbs set the world record for hours spent hula hooping[4] before the band disbanded in 2012.
