Sylvain Fort is a communication consultant, Germanist, translator, essayist and French music critic, born in January 31, 1972 in Charenton-le-Pont (Val-de-Marne).

He is advisor to President Emmanuel Macron since May 2017, in charge of speeches and memory.

Biography

Origins and training

Student at the Hélène-Boucher high school in Paris, Sylvain Fort wins a 2nd prize in Greek at the 1988 general competition... He did his preparatory classes at Lycée Henri-IV and joined the École normale supérieure (promotion L1991),. Associate of Classics in 1994, he became a doctor of Germanic studies at Paris-IV University in 2000 under the direction of Pierre Brunel, his thesis being devoted to the French cultural influence in Friedrich von Schiller's youth dramas.

Career

Literature and music

Until 2002, Sylvain Fort taught literature as an assistant-instructor and then as a seconded associate at Paris-IV University and at the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris..  He directs from 1999 the collection "Head-to-Head" at L'Arche who publishes unrecognized or forgotten essays by classical or contemporary authors, such as Plutarch (translated by himself), Hermann Broch, Frédéric Bastiat, Nicolás Gómez Dávila or Voltaire. In 1996, he undertook the new translation of Friedrich Schiller's great pieces, never redone for several decades, by the L'Arche editions. He has written several works published by Presses Universitaires de France (PUF), including Le Cas Schiller and With Puccini, as well as a biography of Herbert von Karajan noticed by France Musique.  He has collaborated on numerous musical publications such as Diapason, Opéra Magazine or La Lettre du musicien.  He is in particular director of the publication of forumopera.com , which for several years has been the monthly editorial and regular collaborator of Classica. He translates in Actes Sud Nikolaus Harnoncourt's essays in France on romantic and modern music, which he preface, but also the letters of Alban Berg to Hanna Fuchs, never translated into French, edited by the academic Constantin Floros, which expose the secret process of the creation of Berg's Lyric Suite. In March 2017, the Don Carlos de Schiller is given in Strasbourg in the translation of Sylvain Fort by the company Epik-Hotel.

He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Club des normaliens en entreprise.

Communication and politics

In February 2002, he is recruited in the cabinet of Michel Pébereau, president of BNP Paribas, then becomes vice-president at BNP Paribas Corporate and Investment Banking before joining the BNL-BNP Paribas integration team in Italy. In 2008, he joined DGM Conseil, a communications agency counting among his clients Vincent Bolloré and Bernard Arnault, became in 2010 director of public affairs and communication of Scor, in 2012 director of development at Sia Conseil before co-founding in 2013 with Daphne Claude an agency specialized in corporate and financial communication, Steele & Holt. In 2005, he led the Montaigne Institute's working group on state real estate assets.  In 2006, he is the reporter of the group "Having leaders in the world university competition", directed by Philippe Wahl.

In 2011, he wrote a report "On Business Leaders and Senior Public Service" on behalf of the Institute of Business , studying new forms of permeability between public and private sectors. The same year, he participated a few times in the informal group which, gathered around the former part of Vivendi Jean-Rene Fourtou, "work in secret to the re-election of Nicolas Sarkozy" during the French presidential election of 2012 and meet Nicolas Sarkozy many times.

Recommended in particular by Mathieu Laine, Sylvain Fort joins Emmanuel Macron's team during the 2017 presidential campaign as communication advisor on August 30, 2016. Some journalists mentioned the controversies he would have had with them during the campaign.  In May 2017, he joined the office of the President of the Republic as counselor for speeches and memory. This new position at the Élysée is responsible for relations with intellectuals and questions related to memory.
