Syracuse University Ambulance (SUA) is Syracuse University's SU Health Services-based student-run emergency medical services organization, providing care to the campuses of Syracuse University and the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, NY.[1] SUA provides patient care under the supervision of the organization's Medical Director, EMS Manager, and Student Field Supervisors.
History[edit]
Founded in 1973 as the Syracuse University Medical Crisis Unit (MCU), SUA operated as an emergency first responder organization, responding on foot to provide non-transporting emergency first aid care.[2]
Syracuse University Ambulance is a member of the National Collegiate Emergency Medical Services Foundation.
Capabilities[edit]
Syracuse University Ambulance currently employs two Basic Life Support ambulances, a fly-car (often used by Field Supervisors and the EMS Manager), and a Medical Support Unit trailer for use during a mass-casualty incident. Additionally, SUA operates four transport vans for non-emergency transports.[3]
Daily Operations[edit]
SUA operates with a 24/7 emergency dispatch, and employs the following shifts during the academic year:

Daytime | 1230-1700 |
Evening | 1700-2200 |
Overnight Primary | 2200-0800 |

In the event SUA is unable to respond, the call will be redirected to American Medical Response of Central New York, an agency SUA has a mutual aid (emergency services) agreement with.
