Background[edit]
The project is named after Systema Naturae written by Carl Linnaeus. Speaking about the open data revolution happening around, Outliers by Pattern(The Data Science association) out of Tilburg University cited Systema Naturae as a use case for solving a range of societal problems and cited the project could make it easier for people to find open wildlife data[3]
Available data[edit]
Systemanaturae.org uses the Binomial nomenclature as a meta data element for classifying and indexing datasets related to wildlife as seen in the Google search results indexing systemanaturae.org[4]. The website has reached more than 100 countries and has been used by research centres, think tanks and universities across the world [5]. Systemanaturae.org is a Sustainable Development Goal 15 initiative.
Architecture of the portal[edit]
The portal is built using open source solutions including wordpress content management system and the data catalogue follows the Google's Schema.org and indexed in Google Dataset Search.
Operations & Funding[edit]
The project is funded by Government of Canada, The Commonwealth and volunteer run.
