T. P. Asharafali (ടി. പി. അഷ്റഫലി (Malayalam)), is a leader in student and youth politics in India, who is currently the National President of the Muslim Students Federation,[2][3] the student wing of the Indian Union Muslim League. He is also a member of the Kerala state working committee of the Indian Union Muslim League.

Personal life[edit]

T. P. Asharafali is the son of T. P. Abdulla Musliyar and Fathima. He was born at Edakkara, Malappuram, Kerala. His father T. P. Abdulla Musliyar was a renowned Islamic Scholar and Quazi of Manjery Melakkam in Malappuram District, Kerala.[4][5] He married Jameela Thabassum.

Education[edit]

T. P. Asharafali did his schooling at G. H. S. S. Edakkara and S. V. H. S. S. Palemad. From there, he went to graduate in Economics (B. A. Economics) from Mar Thoma College, Chungathara and got a M.A. in Philosophy from University of Calicut and a M.A. in Islamic Studies from the SAFI Institute of Advanced Study, Vazhayur, Malappuram. Currently he is pursuing his Ph. D. in History at Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu

Student politics[edit]

T. P. Asharafali has taken part in politics through active participation in Chandrika Balasangam and Muslim Students Federation. He enrolled as a MSF member while studying at Edakkara Government High School. Later he bore office of the President and General Secretary of Muslim Students Federation, Nilambur (State Assembly constituency) Committee. Asharafali was elected as the University Union Councilor of Mar Thoma College, Chungathara to the Students Union of University of Calicut from the Muslim Students Federation panel of candidates in 2002.

Asharafali was General Secretary of Muslim Students Federation of Malappuram District in 2006. Later he was elected as General Secretary and President of Kerala State Muslim Students Federation in 2010 and 2012 respectively[6] respectively. During that time he made significant interventions in social work and the problems faced by students. He led the fight for rights. In 2011, he was instrumental in leading the much-welcomed the Campus Conference at Calicut University Campus on the theme "bold move for the new society".[7] Former Indian President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam was the chief guest at the event.[8] Another significant campaign successfully organized by the Muslim Students Federation under his leadership was all Kerala “unarthujatha”, an all Kerala Bicycle Rally, raised the motto against drug abuse, domestic violence, academic violence, sexual atrocities against children, against suicidal tendencies among students.[9] He became the Syndicate Member of University of Calicut in 2011 and he was the first Muslim Students Federation representative in a University Syndicate in the history of Muslim Students Federation.

Asharafali became the member of the Kerala State Youth Commission, Government of Kerala in 2013 and where he contributed substantial time and service to the youth of the State of Kerala.[10]

T. P. Asharafali entered the realm of national student politics by being the first National President of the Muslim Students Federation in 2016.[11][12] Under his leadership, the Muslim Students Federation held nationwide protests against the Governments in various educational,[13][14][15] social and political issues.[16][17][18] The Muslim Students Federation actively participated in the Citizenship Amendment Act protests under the leadership of T. P. Asharafali.[19][20][21] There are many welfare schemes designed under his leadership to address the backwardness of the students in the north and east of India.[22] The Muslim Students Federation under his leadership conducted campaigns to impart moral and human values among the students in India.[23]

Asharafali is one of the spokespersons of the Indian Union Muslim League in Kerala.[24] He participate in the prime hour debates of every Malayalam New Channels and very familiar to the people.[25][26] His statements through the Social Media platforms are also got attention of the people.[27][28]

He is an alumnus of International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) funded by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs since 2020.

Election politics[edit]

T. P. Asharafali entered to the next level of political life by participating in the Election to Local Bodies (Panchayats, Municipalities and Corporations) in Kerala, held in 2010. He was elected from Menonpotti constituency of Edakkara Grama Panchayath. He was contested as a candidate of the Indian Union Muslim League.[29]

Asharafali, then President of Kerala State Muslim Students Federation, was assigned by the Indian Union Muslim League to contest local elections in Kerala, held in 2015 to the Malappuram District Panchayath from Karuvarakundu Division. He won with a large majority.[30][31][32]
