The TC800 was a computer launched by Olivetti in 1975, along with the Olivetti P6060. Projected under the supervision of Pier Giorgio Perotto and Marisa Bellisario, it was basically a smart-terminal: while it was mainly conceived to be used as a terminal for a mainframe it had some autonomous elaboration capabilities.
Using the Cosmos operating system it could be linked in networks of TC800, which allowed a single terminal to be used as a master to control access to resources and offer them to satellites.
It was a modular system: one could add to the central unit some peripherals such as disk units, floppy disc drives and control lines, in order to make a terminal more or less autonomous.
It offered in Italy a strong position to Olivetti in the banking sector, which was held for 20 years.
