TEXSAR
TEXSAR[1] is a Texas based non-government organization that is specialized in Search and Rescue
History
Texas Search and Rescue (TEXSAR) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, volunteer-based first responder organization headquartered in Austin, Texas. Founded in 2004, TEXSAR provides specialized search and rescue, and disaster response services across all 254 counties in Texas. The organization deploys at the request of law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency management agencies. TEXSAR was established in 2004 to provide trained volunteer support for search and rescue operations across Texas. Over time, it has expanded into multiple divisions across the state, becoming one of the largest unpaid search and rescue organizations in Texas.
Scope of Work
TEXSAR deploys in response to requests from local, state, and federal agencies, including the Governor of Texas, the Rangers or other law enforcement agencies.
The organization provides:
- Ground search and rescue
- Flood and swiftwater rescue
- K9 search, rescue, and recovery
- Disaster relief services
- Aerial search and UAV (drone) support
- Incident Management Team (IMT) support
- Logistics and communications assistance
- Human Remains searches
Notable Deployments
Kerr County Floods (July 2025)
- In early July 2025, TEXSAR deployed in response to catastrophic flash flooding in the Texas Hill Country, along the Guadalupe River in Kerr County, arising from heavy rains and a mesoscale convective system. By July 5th 42 volunteers were deployed from command staff to Swift water rescue to ground SAR responders. K9 units and drones were deployed as well.[2][3][4][5][6][7]
