Apaokagi Adedoyin Maryam (born 27th February, 1999 in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria), popularly known by her stage name Taaooma is a Nigerian comedienne, content creator and cinematographer. Her blossoming career has seen her gain huge following on social media platforms(Instagram: @taaooma and Facebook: @taaooma) thus making her as one of the most popular online comedians in Nigeria.[1]
Early life and background of Taaooma
Taaooma was born and raised in Ilorin, Kwara State to Mrs. Aishat Apaokagi and Mr. Apaokagi. She had her early education in Kwara State before relocating to Abuja. She completed her secondary education at Concordia College Namibia. Taaooma moved back to Nigeria to complete her tertiary education at Kwara State University where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in Tourism and Travel Services Management.
Her Rise to Fame
Taaooma stated her comedy career in 2015. She is known for acting as a Nigerian mother in her comedy skits. She disclosed in an interview that it was never her plan to be a comedian and that her boyfriend, Greene Abdulazeez, a popular Nigerian video director, who discovered the comedy talent in her.[2] She became with her comedy skit “When your mom drives you to school” and since then she gained recognition and followers on her social media page.
Her stage name Taaooma is an abbreviation of her names Taaoo Mayam Apaokagi.[3]
She disclosed in an interview with Nigeria Premium Times that she runs a food business and delivery is made for orders.[4]
Awards and Recognitions
She won the “Best Online Comedian of the year” award at the Gage awards, 2019.[5]
The Top 25 Under – 30 Nigerian superstars and one of Leading Ladies Africa #100woman.[6]
