Anita Natacha Akide also known as Tacha or Symply Tacha is a Nigerian reality TV personality, Vlogger, Influencer, enterprenueur from Rivers state..[1]

She rose to fame after appearing on the reality TV show, Big Brother Naija season 4 'Pepper Dem' edition and was the first housemate to be disqualified from the Big Brother Naija show. She was disqualified after 68 days.[2][3]

Career[edit]

Tacha is an entrepreneur and influencer who owns an online store. She audition for BBN season 4 to promote her business and was a powerful contestant that season with a large fanbase called 'Titans'. Although she ended up being disqualified for physical violence a fellow housemate, Mercy.[2][4] She was also the first house mate to be disqualified from the Big Brother Naija show.[3]

Tacha was the cover girl for La Mode Magazine’s August Issue in 2020.[5] She launched a fashion brand called 'Titans Collections'[6] which won the ‘Fashion Brand of the Year‘ award at the 2020 Scream All Youths Awards.[7] She started her own reality show called "Keeping up with Tacha".[8][9]

Tacha was also featured in Tiwa savage music video titled 'Ole' featuring Naira Marley.[10]

Endorsements[edit]

Tacha has signed a lot of endorsement deals, her first being with GetFitNg.[11][12][13] She also signed an ambassador deal with Royal Hairs.[14] Tacha in 2019 announced on her House of Lunettes ambassador deal via her IG page.[15][16]

In 2020, she became an ambassador for OPPO Mobile Nigeria.[17]

Personal life[edit]

In an interview with Punch newspaper, she admitted to having a tattoo of the Nigerian artist Davido on her chest.[18]She also confessed to being Davido's fan since 2011.[1]

Tacha has one daughter.[19]

Natacha Akide, popularly known as Symply Tacha, is a Nigerian-Ghanian public figure, influencer, reality TV star, vlogger, philanthropist and a serial entrepreneur. The reality TV star was born and raised in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, Nigeria and was also known as Port Harcourt first daughter. She first came into the limelight as a controversial Instagram sensation after several of her videos went viral in Nigeria.

Early years[edit]

As a teenager, she owned a small business as a beautician, in the city of Port Harcourt. She however delved into making YouTube videos on make-up tutorials as a form of marketing and a source of revenue making. She also used her YouTube Platform to speak on trending topics[1] which earned her fame. She went ahead to launch “Everything Tacha”, an online fashion, beauty and electronic store in the year 2018.

Big Brother Naija[edit]

In 2019, Symply Tacha was selected as a housemate for Big Brother Naija season 4 [2] where she earned a lot of admirers despite being controversial in the show. Her bold personality earned her many supporters which known as Tacha-Titans[3][4]. Whilst in the Big Brother House, Tacha got into an altercation with a Housemate which got her disqualified from the show[5][6]. Her disqualification caused an uproar as many saw it as being biased. She got signed to a management company, Billz Vizion[7] [8]owned by Tunji Balogun popularly known as Teebillz.

Anita Natacha Akide (Born December 23, 1995), known professionally as Symply Tacha or Tacha, is a media personality, YouTuber, Humanitarian and an Entrepreneur. Although a social media sensation before becoming a housemate on Big Brother Naija (season 4), her appearance on MTV's The Challenge: Spies, Lies & Allies made her an international star with millions of fans.

Early Life[edit]

Anita Natacha Akide was born in River state on December 23rd 1995.[1] and grew up in Port Harcourt city dubbing herself Port Harcourt first Daughter. She earned the First School Leaving Certificate and West African Senior School Certificate in the city. She holds a Bachelors degree in English after successfully graduating from the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education [1]. Symply Tacha was born to a Nigerian father and a Ghanian Mother. Unfortunately, her mom who she has openly and frequently attributed her work ethics to died several years ago when she was in university. Although very private about her personal life, Symply Tacha has two sisters, Kimberly and Beni, who are not too shy of the limelight with instagram followers of 24.6K and 32.3K[2] respectively.

Career[edit]

Symply Tacha became an internet sensation after several of her videos including a prank proposal went viral [3]. In 2015, she became a Youtuber posting beauty tutorials, story time and fashion tips. She currently has 67.1K subscribers on her YouTube Channel [4]. Before venturing into the reality show scene in 2019, Symply Tacha had acquired more than 300k followers on instagram and was a brand influencers[5][6]

Reality Show[edit]

Big Brother Naija[edit]

In 2019, Symply Tacha became one the housemates of the fourth season (Pepperdem Geng) of the hit African reality show, Big Brother Naija. Season 4 was a season to remember with iconic statements from Tacha that included "Look at me and look at them" and "No Leave No Transfer" [7]. In the true fashion of the show, Symply Tacha participated in sponsored tasks and proved to viewers she can be creative, and a team player. The controversial reality star was however the most nominated housemate with a whooping 25 nominations [8]. This comes as no surprise since she was involved in verbal altercation with several of the housemates [9]. Despite being saved by way of voting numerous times by her fans, her dream of winning the prize money was cut short when she was disqualified on the 90th day, narrowly missing the top five spots, for breaking the house rule of physical altercation with another house mate[10] . Her surprise exit from the show didn't teeter her fans however, instead it became the most talked about event of the season and earned her several more loyal fans.

MTV The Challenge[edit]

Symply Tacha appeared as a rookie agent of the 37th season of MTV The Challenge (TV series)[11]. The show which premiered in September 2021 received more media buzz than previous seasons. The now MTV star was partnered with another rookie agent, Jeremiah White and appeared on three episodes. She was eliminated by Berna on the "Sea Cave Recon" episode [12] . The reality star caused a social media stare when she confronted one of the show's veteran, Victoria "Tori' after the elimination Task [13]. She accused Tori of being fake after a supposed deal went sour as the clip showed resulting in an elimination to remember with one of the most iconic verbal squabble . It is reported that the two MTV stars are currently not in speaking terms since leaving the show[14]. While her stay on the show was brief, the media buzz for the 37th season of the show has been attributed to the star and her boisterous fans[15][13]

Partnership and Ambassador[edit]

After leaving Big Brother Naija, Symply Tacha was signed to Billz Vizion Management, a firm founded by Teebillz[16]who formerly managed one of the biggest Afro beats star, Tiwa Savage . Less than two months after her exit from the show, Tacha was signed as the brand ambassador to one of the biggest sunglass distributor in Nigeria, House of Lunettes [17]. Other reputable endorsement deals include GetFit, the largest wearable fitness solution [18] , Royal Hair- one of the biggest hair distributors in Nigeria [19], OPPO mobile [20] , and an influencing brand deal with Ciroc [21]

Business[edit]

At 25, Symply Tacha is a known serial entrepreneur solely owning an online store "EverythingTacha", a logistic company, "EverythingTacha Logistics" and a fashion brand, "NLNT."[6]

  • Everything Tacha is an online store that contains top selling products including "Smile Tacha", ST electric toothbrush, ST laser removal, Beard kit, PowerTacha, ST clippers and many more[27]. While the store is currently just online, the CEO has promised fans and consumers a physical location in a Q & A session.
  • Everything Tacha Logistics is the latest venture of the 25 year old. After her loyal fans, the Tacha Titans, surprised her with a van and three dispatch bikes to start a logistics company, the upcoming mogul has added more bikes and vans to the collection and launched in major cities (Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt) in Nigeria[28]
  • NLNT is more than a clothing line including variety of products including work out, lounge wears and accessories - bags, necklaces and water bottle. The sub company was created for her fans but has soon evolved beyond the fans to the general public.

Activism[edit]

Symply Tacha, one to not shy away from controversial topics, has made her stance on several of socio issues that plagues Nigerians very clear. During the End SARS protest in 2020, the entrepreneur took her protest beyond the twitter hashtags by joining the protesters in major cities in Nigeria[29]. She also has appeared on several shows to speak on the way forward regarding police brutality in Nigeria[30]. Additionally, Symply Tacha was one of the many celebrity that was against the Government ban on the social media platform- Twitter [31]. The Ban of Twitter in Nigeria was reported to be enforced after the president's, Muhammadu Buhari, tweet was deleted for violating twitter guidelines. The media personality along side her colleagues and millions of Nigerians took to Twitter to protest the Government's decision with the hashtag #keepItOn. Bringing light to the injustice to the Asian community, Symply Tacha also joined the online protest against Asian hate [32]

Philanthropy[edit]

Symply Tacha officially launched the Natacha Akide Foundation (NAF) in 2020 to serve the less privileged[33]. Her past vlogs also shows her giving foods to the locals in her hometown in PH city. The foundation kicked off with the initiative, Pad For Every Girl (PEG) with the star visiting secondary school, educating young girls on the importance of female hygiene and handing out sanitary pads. Not long after the launch of PEG, she joined the initiative Action Against Hunger to help families who lacked food during the global pandemic[33]. For her supporters, Symply Tacha sponsored the Skill Acquisition Program that allowed interested fans to learn skills like wig making, baking, tailoring, graphic design, printing etc completely free[citation needed]

Influence[edit]

Symply Tacha influence was first noticed when one of the outfit she wore on Big Brother Naija (season 4) was sold out within hours of the show airing [34]. Her influence continued to her first official brand deal with House of Lunette where 2500 pairs of sunglasses were sold within two hours of her being announced as their brand ambassador [35]. Selling out products doesn't end with her brand deals, the media sensation also sells out her own products from both her NLNT and EverythingTacha store[36].

In the October release of Top Charts' "Social 100", Tacha ranked three ahead popular African artists like Davido, Burna Boy, Tems (singer) etc [37]. The list displays the 100 most talked about celebrities in Africa from January 2021 to date[37]. Tacha Akide has appeared on the weekly list and remained amongst the top 20 since the launch in January of 2021[37]

Titans[edit]

Upon her ejection from Big Brother Naija (season 4), Symply Tacha accumulated one of the most dedicated fans in the history of the franchise. The Tacha Titans are just as controversial as their fav and possess the same stanship culture as Barbz and Beehives. The Titans support, for their Queen as they commonly call her, extends beyond online buzz. The Stans have showered the reality Star with lavish gifts that include a Mercedes Benz in 2019 for her 24th birthday [38], and a Bus, dispatch Bikes and six million Naira in 2020 for her 25th birthday [39]. Other thoughtful gifts from the fans to the star include a dog for Valentines day, charity donations and money for "Titaniversary".

The Tacha Titans has also proven to be more than an online presence. The army, as they are sometimes called by the star, created the first ever Online Reality Show- House of Tacha [40], a fan podcast - Tacha Titans FM[41], Fitness Program[42], Mental Health awareness and Mentorship programs[43].

Awards and Recognitions[edit]

Symply Tacha is currently one of very few African celebrities being followed on Instagram by the rapper Nicki Minaj[44]. She is also being followed by the CEO of Twitter, Jack Dorsey[45]. She was also the first female Nigerian reality star to be verified on Twitter [46].

Anita Natacha Akide, simply known as Tacha is a Nigerian reality TV personality who became popular for appearing on the Big Brother Nigeria reality show. Tacha was born on December 23 1995[1] in Port Harcourt[2][3] and attended Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt where she got a degree in English. Prior to her appearance on Big Brother, she was popular on the social media platform, instagram. She was disqualifed from the Big brother show after an altercation with the eventual winner, Mercy Eke.[4][5] She has a fanbase named Titans.[6]

She was active during the End SARS movment against police brutality. She was named the most popular BBNaija star of 2020 by NET Honours.[4]

Tacha took part in the MTV reality TV show, The Challenge: Spies, Lies & Allies[7] and was evicted on day 89.[8]
